BSKE bets urged: No mudslinging

CABANATUAN CITY – Candidates for various positions in the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in Nueva Ecija were urged Thursday to avoid mudslinging.

“Sa mga kandidato ng bawat barangay, sana ang ilalahad po ninyo sa inyong kandidatura ay ang programang magbibigay pag-unlad at magandang benipisyo sa inyong barangay, iwasan ninyo na gumawa ng propaganda ng siraan, pananakot, na magdudulot ng hindi pagkakaunawaan at away at masira ang magandang ugnayan sa barangay,” said Col. Richard Caballero, Nueva Ecija police director, during the Lakad ng Pagkakaisa Para sa Mapayapa at Maayos na BSKE 2023. 

Hundreds of candidates for village chiefs and councilors as well as sangguniang kabataan walked from the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park to the provincial police headquarters here where they joined a symposium and signed a peace covenant.

The activity that was also graced by religious leaders from various sects was spearheaded by the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office alongside other government and non-government organizations in the province, with the candidates pledging their commitment to have orderly and safe polls.

Joining the walk with the some 300 candidates were Atty. Rommel Rama, provincial election supervisor; Atty. Ofelio A Tactac Jr, director of the Department of Interior and Local Government-NE; Dr. Ronilo Hilario, asst. schools division superintendent of Nueva Ecija; Rev. Fr. Aldrin B Domingo, chairman, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting-NE; Pastor Jose Arnie Santelices, Bless Our Cops  Movement; Imam Ibrahim Salip, Islam, Barangay Isla, Cabanatuan City; Maj. Judy Valera, of 84th Infantry Battalion; NEPPO Command Group and Staff, chiefs of police, force commanders, and personnel of NEPPO.

Rama, Tactac, Domingo, Valera and Hilario, in behalf of their organizations, expressed their commitment in attaining clean, honest and peaceful election. 

Also, a forum for the candidates was also conducted to address questions, clarify issues, and enrich the candidates’ election 

The event was also highlighted by the ceremonial release of white balloons as a sign of aspiration by all the participant to have orderly, clean and peaceful election. 

 “We want our police to have direct community engagement by offering ourselves in anything that we can help,” Caballero said. –
