SAMAL, Bataan — Brigada Eskwela kicked off at a public elementary school here with a parade, followed by a short program, rice distribution, and cleanup of school and classroom premises on Wednesday, August 16.

The Brigada Eskwela at the Samal South Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Lucia was part of national activities that go on from August 14 – 19, preparing the public schools for official opening on August 29.

It has for its theme “Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan.”

Cherry Esconde, School Parents – Teachers Association president, led in the pledge of commitment of stakeholders/volunteers. School principal Alice De Guzman briefed the participants on the opening of classes and other school matter.

As a small token for participants, volunteers received a kilo of donated rice each.

A Grade 3 pupil and an old man were busy painting school desks as well as a wife and husband fixing things at one of the classrooms. Volunteers were cutting tall grasses with the use of a grass cutter.

Samal Vice Mayor Ronald Ortiguerra reminded parents and teachers of the importance of properly guiding the school children.

According to the vice mayor, it is good that DepEd is returning subjects on GMRC.

Ortiguerra left three points for the parents and teachers to ponder: “Makinig – pakinggan natin ang ating mga anak sa kanilang mga gusto, sa nararamdaman nila. Huwag natin silang pababayaan.”

Joining the activity was Samal councilor Lito Llanda.
