HERMOSA, Bataan — The first day Monday, August 14, of Brigada Eskwela in flood-prone Barangay Almacen here focused more on removing thick mud left by Supertyphoon Egay and the cleaning of classrooms.

Participants in the Brigada Eskwela composed of parents and teachers with the assistance of barangay workers headed by punong barangay Herman Layug cleared of mud the school premises of Almacen Elementary School as well as the barangay canals.

Layug asked residents to help each other in the cleanup drive as the mud left by Egay was thick.

“Nabawas-bawasan namin.

School principal Lizette Tolentino said Egay brought heavy rains and caused floodings of more than five feet deep in the school.

Regular classes in public elementary schools start on August 29.

Rosalyn Diwa, Grade 2 teacher, started early in cleaning her classroom. She pointed to portions of her classroom above her head as to the depth of the flood. “Mataas ang baha, nabasa ang ilang gamit namin.”
