Break from canned goods, ‘adobong baboy’ for lunch

MARIVELES, Bataan
Para hindi magsawa with the usual relief packs of canned goods and cup noodles, the sangguniang barangay of Alion, an upland village here, slaughtered a large hog to be cooked for lunch of villagers Friday.

Barangay chair Al Balan said they will prepare adobong baboy out of the 207-kilo pig they bought from funds under the “Kusina sa Barangay” program of Gov. Albert Garcia and brother, 2nd District Rep. Jose Enrique Garcia III.

Target of the once-a-day feeding program are 1,223families in the village. Balan said they have been cooking food either for breakfast or for lunch. Barangay officials with volunteers do the preparationand the serving house to house.

The free food is to augment the ration to the residents composed mostly of canned goods and noodles “para hindi sila magsawa” during the duration of the enhanced community quarantine, Balan said.

Sometimes they cook champorado or arroz caldo for breakfast.

Rice for the barangay

The provincial government has also distributed one-half cavan of 20 kilos of commercial rice each to all 1,223 families in Alion while distribution is stillongoing to the rest of the 237 barangays in Bataan.

Balan said that aside from the relief goods from the governor and congressman, many of his friends and relatives have been donating milk and diapers for babies, vegetables, fruits, pigs, chickens, dried and fresh fish, bread, hotdogs, spaghetti, bawang, sibuyas, camote, cassava, and many others.

He said that others donated alcohol and soap.

“Maraming salamat sa kanilang lahat. Sana hindi sila magsawa sa pagtulong sa aking mga kabarangay sa panahong ito ng krisis,” Balan said.
