In a forum with the Capampangans in Media, Inc. (Cami) here, Alejandrino said many businessmen remain interested to invest in San Juan Bano but have deferred plans amid the status of the barangay as “permanent danger zone.”
The barangay is the location of the well-known Arayat National Park which boasts of cool water springs and has remained a major tourist attraction in Pampanga.
Alejandrino noted that almost the entire San Juan Bano was declared a permanent danger zone by Pampanga’s provincial disaster management and coordinating council (PDCC) after a huge landslide buried homes at the foot of Mt. Arayat in the barangay during Typhoon Onday in September 2009.
But Alejandrino said he undertook engineering measures to create a channel towards the Pampanga River and spare his barangay from strong currents that trigger landslides during the rainy season.
“That’s the reason why most of the 117 families who were resettled have returned since two years ago. These families know for sure there is no more threat,” he insisted.
Alejandrino noted that one investor has bared plans to construct a hotel in San Juan Bano but could not do so because of the official danger zone tag on the area.
