HAVE PEN and camera, will travel.

Finding shared passion for traveling, dedication to writing and enjoyment of photography, seven mediamen from Pampanga banded together in some sort of a travel fraternity they called traveloggers.features&fotos.

Peter Alagos, editor of CL Businessweek and contributor to Today-Manila Standard. Ashley Manabat, columnist of Central Luzon Newsweek, Island Times, Angeles Observer, and CL Businessweek. Deng Pangilinan, publisher of Balacat News, freelance photographer, broadcaster of dwRW, and chair of the Mabalacat Water District. Joey Pavia, reporter of Mabuhay, Punto! Central Luzon, Central Luzon Newsweek and dwGV-FM. Arnel San Pedro, managing editor of CIAC News  (official publication of the Clark International Airport Corp.), and columnist of News Central. Noel Tulabut, managing editor of Clark Monitor (official publication of the Clark Development Corp.) and columnist of Sun-Star Pampanga. And this writer.

Individually, the seven have already logged several miles in Asia – Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and even mainland China as well as in Saudi Arabia, in the United States and in Europe – notably France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the Scandinavian countries.

While personal accounts of these travels found their way in various local  and even national publications, the spin was invariably journalistic, if not outright political, rather than promotional as a travelogue should be.

It was only in the group travels to Cebu and Boracay two years ago, in Thailand last year, and in Macau and Vietnam this year, that they began featuring promotional stories of the places they experienced.

Thereby, birthing in them the realization now expressed in the organization’s vision: Travel fosters a greater understanding of other peoples and a deeper appreciation of other cultures, making it – in the words of Mark Twain – “fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” Given affirmation there is the clichéd truism: “Travel broadens the mind.”

That article of faith they intend to put into realization through their mission: To help promote inter-cultural harmony and understanding through the travel experience and its presentation in feature stories and photographs in their respective publications.

With the formal organization of traveloggers.features&fotos, and with its express vision and mission, it is expected that the seven will pursue with greater vigor their common passion to travel, to write, to photograph and provide their respective audiences appreciation of their destinations as well as pride of their own.

A very promising proposition there with the enthusiastic support of various stakeholders at the organization’s launch at Hotel Vida on October  21. The guest book is a virtual who’s who of in the province’s top travel and tour agencies, hotel industry, airline executives, notably Cebu Pacific’s vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog, and the Department of Tourism led by Director Ronnie Tiotuico.

Bon voyage then. And expect a lot of colorful travelogues in these pages soon.
