MABALACAT, Pampanga – “It’s has fallen on deaf ears for the longest time.”

Thus said yesterday Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales as he assailed the Department of Public Works (DPWH) in Region III for its failure to repair pot holes along MacArthur Highway at the downtown area here.

Morales said they had written Juanito Reguyal, DPWH district engineer based in nearby Angeles City, thrice since May but to no avail. He added that he had called DPWH Regional Direcror Alfredo Tolentino on his mobile phone several times to inform him about the need to repair a portion of the national road in Barangay San Francisco here.

“We wrote and called them many, many times but there was no concrete action yet after eight long months,” Morales said. “The commuters and residents of Mabalacat are suffering from the inaction of the DPWH in the region.”

Last October 27, Morales through Municipal Administrator Rosan Paquia had asked the DPWH to repair the said road as heavy traffic was expected during the All Saint’s Day.

Morales said the traffic during the holidays and rush hours could have been minimized if the road was in good shape.

“The people of my town deserve a better road as they frequently use that portion along the major highway in the province,” Morales said. “”The Yuletide holidays are just around the corner and we must get the road repaired already.”

Tolention and other DPWH officials could not be reached for their comments.
