MABALACAT, Pampanga – The municipal government led by Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales submitted some 4,000 names to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) as candidates for a massive construction work of US Military bases in Guam.

Benjie Pangan, head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), said his office had been tapped by POEA to fill up at least 3,000 workforce for some 15,000 available slots for the country. He added that the construction in Guam will start in 2010.

Pangan said they had assisted residents in filling up their applications to the POEA.

“Of course, we prioritize Mabalacat folk as ordered by the mayor,” said Pangan.

Pangan said those interested may still apply at their office as the submission of names to the POEA is ongoing.

Pangan disclosed that “no one in the PESO or municipal hall is authorized to collect fees for services rendered to the applicants.”

Pangan said Morales had specific instructions that applicants should not be charged as part of his project to provide employment to his people.

Architects, engineers, carpenters and construction  workers are high priorities for the opening of jobs in the US territory, Pangan said.

Councilor Froy Galang, head of the town council committee of employment, had “agressively assisted in helping provide jobs,” he added.

Pangan disclosed that the US government is set to transfer their military bases in Okinawa, Japan to Guam.
