MABALACAT, Pampanga – “Stay away from drugs. Be sports-minded.”
Thus said Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales as he gave cash prizes to the major winners in the recently concluded 9-ball billiard tournament in Barangay Dau here.
“I will continue supporting all kinds of sports to win the difficult battle against drugs,” said Morales.
The open tournament named after the mayor drew more than 50 amateur and professional players based in this town.
No less than “The Magician” Efren “Bata” Reyes earlier graced the opening of the Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales Cup at the warehouse of the Dau Plaza.
“I also want to recognize the effort of Bata Reyes in promoting billiards in our town,” said Morales.
Benny Romero of Dau bagged the over-all championship winning P10,000. He defeated Eugene Sarmiento, who received P5,000, in the finals.
The other winners are: Eric Medina, P3,000 (3rd place); and Joel Maniago, P2,000 (4th place).
Tournament Director Lucky Bergorio accompanied the top winners at the office of Morales in Xevera-Mabalacat North on Thursday.
Morales also gave P500 each to the top eight winners in the tournament.
