MABALACAT, Pampanga – Some 2,000 units at the Northville 16 housing project in Barangay Tabun here will be available for “home for the homeless and land for the landless” program of President Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo.

Disclosing this to Punto on Sunday, Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales said the units will be primarily available for “renters and shares” of the houses along the railroad lines of the government here.

“Sumobra kaya pamimigay sa mga walang bahay,” said Morales, disclosing that some 5,700 units will be made at Northville and about 3,700 will be issued to “owners.”

Morales said he will also prioritize the people who “live in squatter areas and those living in dangerous places such as near rivers and creeks.”

The mayor had made rounds on weekends since last month to speak with his people about the plan to give more houses to them.

Warmly welcomed by residents of Barangay San Franciso led by Village Chief Boy Cruz, Morales told the crowd in his speech “that they rightfully own the houses.”

Cruz, for his part, expressed gratitude to Morales “for a job well done for the people.”

The mayor also thanked Vice President Noli De Castro, NorthRail project head Edgardo Pamintuan and National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Rico Laxa for the program to house the homeless in his town.

Morales visited sitios in Barangays Dau and Mabiga over the weekend “to personally tell the good news to the people.”
