CLARK FREEPORT – Joint elements of the Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency intercepted some 1,000 tablets of sex enhancers and party drugs worth P1.6 million at the Clark International Airport here.
BOC-Clark district collector Atty. Ruby Alameda said the contraband was inside three plastic concealed in an air humidifier box in a parcel that was declared as massage oil and pet foods by the shipper Reship.com, reportedly an online seller from the United Kingdom. It was discovered initially after the parcel passed through X-ray area at the airport.
The parcel was consigned to one Monica Santos ofBarangay Tatalon, Quezon City, Alameda added.
The contraband was shipped via air courier to Clark International Airport on Aug 30. It was found out to be carrying prohibited substance when checked further by BOC-Clark examiners assigned at the airport.
PDEA-Pampanga agents immediately launched a “controlled-delivery” operations after they confirmed that the parcel contained the illegal drugs.
Disguised as delivery men of a courier company, PDEA and BOC agents tracked the consignee to the address listed but found no one there.
“The occupants of the apartment seemed to have abandoned the place as nobody showed up despite repeated calls,” said a PDEA agent.
PDEA said it waited for another week hoping that someone will come forward to claim the package.
“When nobody showed up to pick up the parcel, BOC–Clark decided to turn-over the illegal drugs to PDEA,”said Alameda.
Thursday afternoon, BOC-Clark turned over the contraband to PDEA at the Customs-Clark office.
Alameda warned shippers of contraband to stop sending unlawful substance to the Philippines as “they will not succeed because of the modern equipment and vigilance of the BOC examiners in the field.”
