CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “Panandaman mu talaga ing lingap na’t masabal kekaming pakakalulu. (You can really feel her care and compassion for the poor).”
So spoke a middle-aged widow in Mexico town of former Lubao mayor and current 2nd District Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.
Cayabyab met over the weekend with hundreds of solo parents in Mexico and Sta. Ana to learn first-hand the status of their families amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. She also distributed food packs in her physically-distanced interactions where health protocols were strictly enforced.
“We are currently in the process of consultation and will soon formalize the necessary legislation to further extend support to our solo parents especially during this difficult time,” Cayabyab said.
The lady lawmaker said that the pandemic had brought hardships to many families who have lost livelihoods and the situation is even more challenging to solo parents who would have to support their families on their own.
Joining her in her sorties in-aid of legislation in Mexico and Sta. Ana was 3rd District Board Member Ananias Canlas Jr.
Canlas continued the activity in Arayat town.
Earlier, Cayabyab went the rounds of community pantries in Pampanga distributing fresh produce such as assorted vegetables as well as sacks of rice sourced from local farmers.
It was a way, she said, to help the local farmers whose livelihood is as much adversely impacted by the pandemic as the rest of local economy, and at the same time help the needy with their daily sustenance. MPC-IG
