Bloody Sunday for farmers in NE: 1 shot to death, another survives hacking

CABANATUAN CITY – A 51-year-old farmer was gunned down and another survived hacking in separate incidents in Nueva Ecija on Sunday, police said.

Fred Corpuz, married, of Barangay Bibiclat, Aliaga town succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the said village at about 5:55 am..

Investigation disclosed that Corpuz when to plant palay in his farm on board a single motorcycle but was found dead in his farm by neighbor Jessie Simbulan.

Probers have yet to establish the identities of the suspects as well as the motive behind the killing, police said.

In San Jose City,  Antonio Maravilla, 45, of Zone 11, Barangay Tayabo, was reportedly attacked with a bolo by fellow farmer Rodolfo Tablizo, 60, at around 8 a.m.

“The victim sustained wounds on his nape and left arm,” police said, adding the victim was brought to San Jose City General Hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect, on the other hand, was arrested and facing criminal complaint of attempted homicide, police said.
