ANGELES CITY – Clad in black shirts, fifteen village chiefs here have condemned the murder of Pulung Maragul Barangay Captain Edilberto “Play” Cayanan on Saturday as they announced a P50,000 reward for the solution of the crime.

Led by host Village Chief Gloria Tanhueco of Barangay Pulung Bulu and Balibago Barangay Captain Tony Mamac, the Aguman Matenakan Pamuntok Barangay Ciudad Angeles Inc. (AMPBCAI) expressed indignation over the “senseless” gunslaying of Cayanan at about 8:30 p.m. while he was in a drinking spree with his friends.

The AMPBCAI said they will “collectively” shoulder the reward for the speedy solution of the murder on February 28. The lone gunman shot Cayanan twice in the head and one in the body.

“We will just rest if you kill us. But those who love us will get really hurt,” said Tanhueco.

Claro M. Recto Barangay Captain Val Lagman, for his part, described the murder “as alarming.”

“Play’s killer will have a bigger ego and confidence after murdering him. They will now say to themselves that they can kill anyone, especially ordinary citizens,” said Lagman. He urged other village chiefs to take extra precautionary measures in securing themselves.

Mamac, a retired police officer, stressed the importance of citizen’s cooperation in solving crimes such as the Cayanan slay. He added that the AMPBCAI called the press conference to show “oneness and solidarity.” “If we are divided, we can easily crumble. But together we are solid.”

Asked if Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President Robin Nepomuceno was invited, Lagman said “in the first place, the ABC chief should have been the one called the press conference right after the murder.”

“There is no politics here or in our group. We express brotherhood in the Aguman,” said Lagman.

Others who attended the press conference on Tuesday in Pulung Bulu are Barangay Captains Ma. Luisa Banola of Sta. Teresita, Ceferino Nunag of Mining, Carlos Villapana of Sapalibutad, Reynaldo Galang of Tabun, Jeremias Alejandrino of Pandan, Marino Bituin of San Nicolas, Joen June Feraris of Cutud, Teofilo Casupanan of  Sto. Domingo, Marlon Enriquez of Lourdes Northwest, Getulo Almeda of Virgen Delos Remedios, Aymer Alvarado of Sto. Cristo and Conrado Tungul of Sta. Trinidad. They were joined by village councilors

Lorna Zabala and  Amelia Ocampo of Pulung Bulu, Roger Padilla of Virgen Delos Remedios, Bong Reyes, Rudy De Guzman, Haron Tecson of Balibago and Bernie Huypungco of Sto. Cristo.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Pierre Bucsit failed to return text messages yesterday for latest development of Cayanan’s murder.

Casupanan, former detective police chief in this city, urged the ballistic tests of guns to help solve Cayanan’s murder.

Police said they could not make a breakthrough in the killing of Cayanan and three other prominent figures due to the failure of witnesses to cooperate.

Cayanan was the 4th victim of murder since the gunslaying of Businessman Arwind Ting in December.
