BJMP director for Central Luzon Serafin Baretto, Jr. said the other day his agency prefers graduates of criminology, psychology, sociology or other courses focusing on behavior management.
He said at present, BJMP has only about 111,900 personnel all over the country.
Despite the ideal 90,000 personnel needed, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has allocated budget for only 500 new personnel this year and another 1,000 next year.
He cited the 2017- 2022 Philippine Development Plan which covers plans to decongest jails within the Duterte administration. The city jail in Malolos, Bulacan has been noted as among the most congested in the country, with a cell built for eight inmates already congested with as many as 200 persons.
