ANGELES CITY – A Pampanga housing developer has launched its environmental program and second annual beauty pageant here on Friday.
Maurice Van Merkesteijn, president and CEO of Philippine Land Group Inc. (PLGI), said their activities were meant to give “something back relevant to the community.”
Merkesteijn and PLGI Vice President Arnel Torres will lead the tree-planting activity in nearby Mabalacat along with 80 elementary students this week.
“We want to improve the image and concept of our firm. We want to be more friendly to nature as it allowed us to do a noble business of giving decent houses to the people,’ said Merkesteijn, developer of the Grandview Towers here and Grand View Heights I and II housing projects in Barangay Mawaque, Mabalacat. He added that their tree-planting activity will be assisted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The PLGI will also stage seminars and symposia in schools to help people understand the need to nurture the environment and not destroy it.
Meanwhile, at least eight of the 30 lovely candidates of the 2nd Miss Grandview were presented to journalists. They were Maryjane Gama, Jonalle Silva, Maricel Gabalfin, Jessica Brian Bacani, Aira Jade Castro, Daniella Luz Cruz, Perlyn Ocampo and Erica David. The 22-year-old Gabalfin is the reigning Ms. Holy Angel University.
Miss Grandview 2008 Jinky Ann Nicdao and last year’s runner-up winner,
Sucharade Nicdao, also graced the event.
Johnny Ocampo, organizer of the Miss Grandview, said a total P92,000 in cash and certificates will be given to the next major winner of the contest. Some P65,000 in cash will be shared by the first and second runner-ups.
