CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa warned here Monday of continuing purge of the police force to rid it of more cops linked to the illegal drugs.

Speaking before Central Luzon cops during the celebration of the 115th Police Service Anniversary here, he urged the police in Central Luzon to continue serving the public “from the heart, and not for the pockets.”

“If anyone of you is involved in illegal drugs, stop now. I am your enemy. Whoever in the organization will be proven to be involved in illegal drugs will receive the sanction they deserve,” he sternly warned.

“The theme of our celebration declares the direction we are taking in the months ahead. ‘Hamon ng Pagbabago, Pinag-ibayong Serbisyo’ — this is the challenge PNP is currently facing. Through the new administration, the organization was revived in serving our country,” Dela Rosa said.

De la Rosa said, “I’m happy to report to you that according to our director for Investigation and Detective Management, the average crime volume has gone down to 49 percent—almost 50 percent— since we assumed [post] starting July 1.”

However, Dela Rosa emphasized the need to continually cleanse the ranks of the police.

“We cannot be completely eff ective in our campaign against illegal drugs in the community if we don’t fi rst win the same campaign within our ranks. The organization has been shamed too many times already because our fellows who swore to serve and protect [our countrymen], have been doing otherwise,” he said.

He noted that last month, 77 cops in Central Luzon were reassigned to Mindanao after they were linked to illegal drugs.
