BALANGA CITY — The Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) has conferred the degree of Doctor of Education, honoris causa, on former Balanga prelate Bishop Ruperto C. Santos, now head the Diocese of Antipolo.
BPSU president Ruby Santos Matibag signed the certificate after the board of regents upon recommendation of the faculty and the university academic council “recognized the attainment and distinguished service of the former bishop of the Diocese of Balanga.”
Santos was installed on July 22, 2023 as bishop of the Diocese of Antipolo of the province of Rizal after serving the Diocese of Balanga for 13 years, assuming the post on July 8, 2010.
“I am so grateful to BPSU for this honoris causa. This is also an honour to the Diocese of Balanga. I appreciate so much your kindness and goodness. This is an immense and gracious encouragement for me to give my best and be ever faithful to my present Diocese of Antipolo,” the prelate said.
Santos told graduates that they all received 3K (karangalan, kabutihan at karapatan):
“Karangalan. With the successful completion of studies, we are honoured. We get honours. Our medals, certificates and diplomas we offer them to our parents. We bring honours to our home, to our family and to our community.”
“Kabutihan. With our schooling here in Bataan Peninsula State University, we experienced the goodness and kindness of our teaching and non-teaching personnel. They gave their time and talents, patiently and perseveringly teaching us. Our parents with their sacrifices and services made us successful. And they are so good to us and give their best for us. Truly, kay buti ng Diyos. We are now graduates.”
“Katapatan. Today, with our graduation we can say we did not fail them. We live up to their expectations. We did not waste their time and treasures. We fulfil their dreams. And surely in the near future we will raise our hand or place our hands on the Bible as to follow and fulfil the calling of our chosen career.”
