BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Bataan Provincial Health Office (PHO) continues its provincewide implementation of the Micronutrient Supplementation Program to strengthen the health and nutritional status of children and adolescents.

Spearheaded by the PHO in partnership with Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Department of Education nurses, the program covers the ongoing monitoring of vitamin supplementation and the wide distribution of Vitamin A capsules to children aged 6 to 59 months.

It aims to boost immunity against infections and improve eyesight among young children.

In addition, the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation is being conducted in various schools to benefit female teenage students.

This effort seeks to prevent iron deficiency anemia and support learners’ academic performance by improving their overall health and concentration.

Provincial Health Officer and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rosanna Buccahan underscored the importance of these interventions in building a healthier province.

“As we work to make the Philippines a healthier and more resilient place, I wholeheartedly support the implementation of the Micronutrient Supplementation Program in Bataan, particularly Vitamin A Supplementation and Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation,” Buccahan said.

She added that Bataan’s continued commitment to this program demonstrates the province’s dedication to improving the well-being of its people.

“Bataan’s commitment to this program reflects its dedication to building a future where every child grows up healthy, where every adolescent has the strength and energy to learn and thrive, and where every mother carries and delivers her child with dignity and safety,” Buccahan emphasized.

The Micronutrient Supplementation Program forms part of the province’s broader efforts to ensure food and nutrition security in line with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023–2028.

It reinforces Bataan’s thrust to achieve a stronger and more resilient community through preventive health and nutrition programs. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
