BALANGA CITY — The Bataan police director announced Monday that he has filed his courtesy resignation last Friday, in response to the appeal of the secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government to senior PNP officers.

Col. Romell Velasco showed a copy of his letter addressed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. through DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr.

“I am submitting this courtesy resignation subject to existing laws and pertinent rules and regulations, specifically for the purpose of opening myself to assessment and evaluation of the 5-man committee and/or for further investigation, if necessary, in relation to the issue on the alleged involvement of PNP personnel in illegal drug activities,” Velasco said in his letter.

“This represents my commitment and cooperation with the present internal cleansing program of the PNP. However, in case of non-observance of due process, I reserve my right to due process. I reserve my right to avail myself of all remedies under the existing laws and Civil Service Commission’s issuances and policies,” he further stated.

Velasco said he was hopeful that the DILG through the PNP “may forthwith proceed with its honest, open and impartial investigation, with the intention to cleanse the government of misfit personnel and to give justice to those who will later on be found innocent on the issues.”
