LIMAY, Bataan — Police conducted an operation against illegal fishing here on Wednesday, August 23, that resulted to the apprehension of seven individuals.

Major Dennis Duran, Limay police chief, reported to Col. Palmer Tria, Bataan police director, that the suspects were caught in the act of harvesting marine resources using active fishing gear, fine mesh nets and without appropriate permit from the Limay local government.

Duran said the Limay municipal police station conducted the successful operation in coordination with the local government and other concerned agencies as part of government’s preventive measures against illegal fishing.

“If not checked, the illegal activities can damage the marine ecosystem and affect the livelihood of local fisherfolk,” he said.

The violators were brought to Limay MPS for documentation and further investigation. Police, Duran said, are readying charges for violation of the Fisheries Code of the Philippines and other related laws.

Colonel Tria has directed all unit commanders to intensify efforts in addressing illegal fishing activities in Bataan that he said was also the concern of the provincial government.

The police PD also urged the public to cooperate and report any illegal fishing activities to the nearest police station and other law enforcement agencies.
