BALANGA CITY — The giant Bataan People’s Center (BPC) at the Capitol compound here was designated as quarantine facility for health workers of the government-run Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) in this city, Gov. Albert Garcia announced Sunday.
BPC has been the site for games of the Philippine Basketball Association, free live viewing of the various fights of Senator Manny Pacquiao and other big events.
The governor said eight health workers considered as probable cases and waiting for swabbing procedures are quarantined in individualized tents of the center. He said BPC will house BGHMC workers that show signs of possible exposure or displaying mild symptoms.
Hospital employees that showed signs of symptoms of the coronavirus disease on the other hand were already confined at BGHMC, Garcia said.
The hospital was placed on Friday for exclusive use of patients infected with Covid -19 after 42 health workers were tested positive of the virus.
The governor said that more than 200 hospital workers who tested negative of the virus were billeted in various hotels in the province while those who did not indicate signs of symptoms and waiting for swabbing results were quartered in a safe place inside BGHMC “for effective monitoring.”
The health workers quarantined at the people’s center were placed under the care of the Provincial Health Office, BGHMC, and Philippine Red Cross. The Philippine National Police, Capitol Security Intelligence Unit and security guards take care of their security.
“Huwag po kayong mag-alala, hindi po natin pinababayaan ang ating mga medical frontliners na talaga namang walang sawang tumutulong upang masagip ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” Garcia said.
