SAMAL, Bataan — The Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration in Central Luzon has commended a Bataan mayor for helping overseas Filipino workers, especially those under distress and needing assistance to go home.
Municipal administrator Jay Sammy Lat of Samal, Bataan on Friday announced that Mayor Alexander Acuzar was honored by OWWA with a certificate of commendation in a ceremony in Clark, Pampanga last Wednesday.
“This certificate is awarded for your laudable efforts in promoting the welfare of the OFWs and their families in your jurisdiction. Your invaluable support and assistance to our OFWs and their families, your dedication and hard work contributed immensely to the efficient delivery of services to your constituent OFWs,” read the commendation.
Lawyer Falconi Millar, OWWA Region 3 director and OWWA deputy administrator Emma Sinclair were the signatories to the certificate.
Lat said that OWWA acknowledged the assistance of Mayor Acuzar to many “distressed” OFWs not only from Samal but neighboring towns.
“Lubos ang pasasalamat kay mayor ng mga OFWs, lalo na ang mga may problema, dahil napakalaking bagay sa kanila na makauwi sa Pilipinas at makapiling ang kanilang mga pamilya para maka-recover sa trauma na kanilang dinanas sa ibang bansa,” he said.
Lat said the mayor even before he entered politics has been helping many distressed OFWs go home. Acuzar is on his first term as Samal town mayor.
