MARIVELES, Bataan: The Bataan Maritime Police Station reported Saturday the confiscation of two fishing bancas allegedly used in illegal fishing with the use of improvised explosives here Friday night.

Major Leoncio Alcantara, chief of the Bataan Maritime Police Station in Mariveles, reported to Col. Fernando Cunanan, Jr., chief of Regional Maritime Unit 3, of the confiscation of the bancas and bottles of dynamites abandoned by the fishermen.

A team from the Maritime Police conducted operation upon receiving information that two
bancas were engaged in dynamite fishing in barangay Biaan, Mariveles.

The operating team, Alcantara said, spotted the dynamite fishers and tried to arrest them but the violators were able to speedily scamper away towards the shoreline of the barangay and abandoned the bancas and the explosives.

In coordination with barangay officials of Biaan, the police team was able to identify the owners and the fishermen of the two bancas who turned out to be all residents of the barangay. Alcantara said suspects face a case for violation of Section 92 of RA 10654 (fishing through the use of explosives). (30)
