BALANGA City: Bataan holds its 267th foundation day on Thursday, January 11, which was declared as a special non-working holiday in the historic province.
Under RA 11138, the law that created the yearly celebration of Bataan Foundation Day, classes in all levels in both public and private schools and private and public offices are suspended for the day.
Then Congressman of the 2nd district, now Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd, and Congresswoman Geraldine Roman of the 1st district, authored the House bill that became a law.
Bataan became a separate province from Pampanga on January 11, 1757.
The celebration starts with a Holy Mass at 6:00 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral Shrine Parish of Saint Joseph in Balanga City, followed by a parade from Plaza Mayor de Balanga to the Bataan capitol compound.
At 9:00 a.m., Governor Garcia delivers his State of the Province Address at the Bataan People’s Center.
Laro ng Lahi and Karera ng 1Bataan come next at the capitol grounds. Hataw Takbo with the participation of dogs follows at the SM City Bataan in the afternoon.
The celebration closes with the Gabi ng Musika starting at 7:00 in the evening.
