BALANGA CITY — Bataan Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd on Wednesday asked constituents to make the celebration of the coming New Year merry but peaceful and without victims of firecrackers.

The governor said he is one with the call of Interior and Local Government Sec. Benhur Abalos to ban the use of firecrackers as implemented by other local government units like Davao City.

Garcia urged the mayors who are the ones issuing permit for the sale of firecrackers in their localities to consider the call of the secretary.

He said that while still mayor of Balanga City, they have already banned the use of firecrackers as early as 2012.

The governor said that he is in favor of the firecracker ban.

The LGUs, he said, can instead sponsor in their respective municipalities the use of
pyrotechnics or fireworks display for the enjoyment of their constituents.
