An employee of the municipal agriculture office brings out of the barangay hall the certified palay seeds
SAMAL, Bataan — The Department of Agriculture on Wednesday distributed free certified palay seeds to farmers in this town in time for the wet planting season that starts this month.
Jessa Mae Paras of the municipal agriculture office said the project is under DA’s Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program that aims to improve farmer’s competitiveness and income.
She said those to be distributed were 1,003 bags for the first batch of farmers while more are coming for the second batch until all 1,111 beneficiaries receive their share.
“Each farmer is entitled to two 20-kilo bag of palay seeds per hectare tilled,” Paras said.
The beneficiaries came from 14 rice-producing barangays of Samal.
In a statement, Mayor Aida Macalinao thanked the DA and the municipal agriculture office for their concern to farmers.
