Bataan cops nab suspect in slay of Pakistani national, other crimes

BALANGA CITY — The Bataan police provincial office announced the arrest on Thursday, August 10, in Barangay Mt. View in Mariveles town of a suspect involved in the gun slay of a Pakistani businessman and other crimes. 

Col. Palmer Z. Tria, Bataan police director, described the male suspect as a gun-for-hire and a drug personality in Dinalupihan, Bataan who was allegedly involved in the shooting and death of Pakistani national Imran Akhtar, 44, last May 2023. 

The Pakistani was shot dead by two unidentified male suspects who pretended to be customers of the Aryan Resort in Barangay JC Payumo in Dinalupihan that Akhtar and his Filipina wife owned. 

The suspects used a motorcycle that they abandoned and was recovered in Barangay Bangal, Dinalupihan. 

Tria said that a police team composed of members of the provincial intelligence unit, 1st and 2nd provincial mobile force companies, Region 3 police intelligence division and the Mariveles municipal police station conducted the raid upon receiving information the suspect was sighted in Mt. View. 

The suspect, he said, faced a warrant of arrest for the crime of frustrated murder against a provincial legal officer in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga on April 2023. 

Upon arrest of the suspect and the conduct of proactive search, recovered from his possession was one sling bag containing one Shooter .45 pistol with inserted magazine and six live ammunitions, one fragmentation grenade, and four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with estimated amount of P77,244, Tria said. 

The police PD said thorough investigation was still ongoing to determine the possible involvement of suspect in other crimes.
