BALANGA CITY — Bataan was adjudged Thursday as among the country’s 10 winners in the 2023 Galing Pook awards conducted by the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The provincial government’s health program, 1Bataan Healthy Barangay, was included in this year’s Top 10 among 17 finalists from 166 entries in a selection process held in Pasay City. This is the second year that Bataan was declared as among the finalists.
The winning program, 1Bataan Healthy Barangay, was launched in Bataan on July 18, 2019 to improve overall health condition of Bataeños.
It is an incentive-based program that targets recognizing barangays with zero case of dengue, animal bites and maternal and infant death, among others. Another criterion is the village must be drug-free.
There are 237 barangays in 11 towns and a city in three districts of Bataan that vie for the coveted cash prize of P100,000 every quarter for the 1Bataan Healthy Barangay.
In the concluding search for the finalists, Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd presented to the panelists why Bataan deserved the honor and shared the good things that the program has brought to the community.
The Galing Pook Foundation that supervises the Galing Pook award recognizes local government units that have implemented useful and quality development programs or projects that serve as an example to other local governments in the country.
The award-giving body is headed by the Local Government Academy- DILG and composed of good government advocates that searches local government units that have shown remarkable dedication in advancing government innovation.
