BOTOLAN, Zambales — Five persons were rescued while one is still missing when a barge of the Industry Movers Corp. ran aground at the shoreline of Barangay Bangan here due to strong waves brought by Typhoon Paeng.
Maria Elizabeth Ednave-Tovera , Philippine Red Cross- Zambales Chapter provincial administrator, identified those rescued as Patrick Rommel Rivero Cuevas, 22, of Silang , Cavite; John Thomas Hilario, 27, of San Jose, Antique; Joseph Anthony Edquilag, 24, of Imus, Cavite; Peter Claro, 27, also of Antique; and Christian Caguyong, 27, of Avera, Leyte.
Still missing since Saturday afternoon is the barge patron Arland Bacolando, 34, of Bulacan.
On Sunday, Cuevas, Hilario and Edquilag were rescued at 7 a.m., while Claro and Caguyong were rescued at about 2 p.m.
The three earlier rescued were taken to the Philippine Red Cross provincial building and were given first aid and temporary lodging while Caguyong was taken to the President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital and Claro was taken by his superiors in the company after declaring him out of danger.
Cuevas said that the five rescued were asking for help as early as 5 p.m. Saturday when their barge ran aground.
