CABANATUAN CITY – A village peacekeeper was killed by five people, including a woman, when he tried to pacify a quarrel inside a residential compound in Purok 3, Barangay Comcepcion here Sunday night, police reported on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Eliseo de Guzman,28, single and a member of the local Bantay Bayan and resident of Purok 4 of the same village.
The suspects, on the other hand, were identified as Alfred, Angelo and Girlie, all surnamed Simborio; Ramil Gonlibo and Christian Gonzales. Gonbilo and the Simborios are residents of the place while Gonzales is from Clamonte St., Barangay Aduas Norte, also of this city, police said.
Investigation showed the suspects engaged in a quarrel among themselves at about 8 p.m Sunday, prompting the victim to intervene and tried to pacify them.
But the suspects “jointly mauled and stabbed De Guzman with the use of a broken bottle,” said PO3 Ashley Vergara, officer-on-case.
Vergara said the victim succumbed to multiple injuries in different parts of his body.
Responding Bantay Bayan members have arrested the suspects, except for Gonzales who managed to escape, Vergara added.
Murder charges were filed against the suspects before the city prosecutors office.
