BALANGA CITY — Bataan on Monday launched the planting of bamboos at a vacant lot adjacent to the Roman Highway in Barangay Calaylayan in Abucay town as a means of protecting the environment.
The launching was dubbed “Bamboohay” with the theme “Kaarawan para sa Kalikasan at Kabuhayan” in celebration of the birthday of Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia III who turned 51 last Saturday.
More than 200 bamboo seedlings were planted by volunteers coming from different sectors.
The governor said it was just the start of bamboo planting activities in the province after he approved a proposal from the provincial disaster risk reduction management office funded for P3 million.
Bamboos will be planted in critical areas like near rivers to prevent flooding and protect the river banks. He said that the areas were already identified.
Garcia wanted Bataeño families to be resilient, stable, flexible and multi-functional like bamboos.
Vice Gov. Ma. Crisanta Garcia, Pusong Pinoy Partylist Rep. Jett Nisay joined the early morning activity.
