ORANI, Bataan — American and Filipino soldiers on Thursday continued constructing an additional school building of the Pag-asa Elementary School in an upland village here.

An officer of the 355th Aviation Engineer Wing of the Philippine Air Force said the project is under the Philippines – United States Balikatan Exercise.

Joining in the construction of the one-storey, two classroom-building are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, specifically from the PAF’s 355th Wing, and the US forces.

Construction began March 12, 2019 and to be finished on April 12 this year. “The project is a sort of training, shoulder to shoulder, of American and Filipino soldiers for the benefit of the community,” the officer said.

Grade 6 teacher Roberto Surait said they have more than 300 pupils in the school.

“May 48 – 51 pupils ang bawat classroom namin kaya kailangang-kailangan ang additional classroom. Suwerte kami at kami ang nabigyan ng Balikatan,” he said.

“Mabilis ang paggawa. Maganda at pulido,” Surait noted.
