CLARK FREEPORT – To end all speculations, Barangay Captain Tony Mamac of Balibago, the most prosperous village in this city’s 33 barangays, has reiterated his announcement to run for vice mayor.

Mamac said he has made up his mind to run for vice mayor under the Liberal Party (LP) which he officially chairs in this city.

“Ako po ay tatakbong vice mayor ng Angeles,” Mamac said during the media forum “Talk Widus” at the Prism Lounge of Widus Hotel and Casino organized by the Pampanga Press Club and the hotel.

He said he also met with 1st District Rep. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao and offered him the chairmanship since he is the congressman but Guiao declined and said: “Ikaw nalang muna manatili chairman (You should stay as chairman).”

Mamac said he has been chairman of the local LP in two elections, one national election in 2010 and the 2013 midterm elections. But he said the chairmanship will also depend on the national leadership of the LP whoever they want to appoint as local head.

Mamac said he has a clean slate and has not made any endorsement for mayor. “Lahat po sila kaibigan ko (All of them are my friends),” he said.

Mamac will be running against Atty. Brian Nepomuceno, the running mate of incumbent Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan in the Abe Capampangan party; Atty. Willie Rivera, the running mate of Sen. Lito Lapid in the Lingap Lugud party; and possibly three-term Councilor Arvin “Pogz” Suller.

Meanwhile, Mamac said Balibago’s general fund, in a span of eight years, has reached more than P23 million.

Mamac won his chairmanship of Balibago in the 2007, 2010 and 2013 elections.

With only an internal revenue allotment (IRA) of P6 million before, it’s now P14 million, he said. Revenues from the local real property tax amounted to P4.2 million and other local revenue sources have reached P7 million for 2015, he added.

Mamac said he organized the PEACE or Pro Entertainment Association of City Entertainers and the Balibago Business Development Association to protect the business interest of the business establishments especially those commonly subjected to extortions like bars, he said.

Balibago has a daytime population of 45,000 to 48,000 which doubles up during weekends since it is the main entertainment district of not only the city but the province as well.

The infamous Fields Avenue is located in the village.
