CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Noting five previous books about Bataan and its capital are not reliable, the city government of Balanga, Bataan is set to come out soon with a thoroughly researched Balanga Encyclopedia.
“It will be a 192-page encyclopedia being worked on since 2010 by the City of Balanga Historical Committee (CBHC),” said Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III.
Garcia said the project was in reply to the plea of city folk to preserve the history not only of Balanga, but also of the entire Bataan province.
“This is the first time it is being done. We will have a truly informative resource material that will have photos of events, including those that portray our difficulties and victories during the important events, as well as the heroic people in our city,” he said.
The CBHC said that at least three books have been written about Balanga and Bataan in the past five decades, but they were mostly based on urban legend and hearsay.
“The objective of the Balanga Encyclopedia is to give the right and carefully researched information on the history, culture, heroic citizens and latest developments in the community,” the mayor said.
Garcia said the encyclopedia could be finished by yearend or early next year after a thorough examination of its texts.
Already, replicas of the encyclopedia’s cover could be viewed at night at the Galeria Victoria, the St. Joseph Cathedral, and the city hall at Plaza Mayor De Balanga.
