BALANGA CITY – The schools division of the Department of Education in Balanga, Bataan on Friday announced that the city is ready for the opening of senior high school on Monday.

Dr. Carolina Violeta, officer-in-charge of the city schools division and her assistant superintendent Armando Capili said the Bataan National High School (BNHS) and City of Balanga High School (COBHS) are both prepared in terms of infrastructures and teaching force.

“Our 41 teachers for senior high school are already in place. They have completed the necessary trainings and orientation about the curriculum for Grade 11,” Violeta said.

She said that 11 teachers were assigned in COB HS and 30 in BNHS. Both are public high schools in the city. As of June 8, there were 300 enrollees in COB HS and 1,220 in BNHS for Grade 11.

Grade 11 is part of DepEd’s K-12 program where a student has to finish Grade 12 (Grades 7 – 12 in high school) before he will be permitted to take a college course. This school year is the first year of implementation of the program.

Capili said that all is set for use by senior high school enrollees on Monday are 40 classrooms and two standard workshops.

He said that 700 desks were already delivered to the schools while the Provincial Engineering Office is preparing additional desks and tables for workshops from lumber confiscated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Undergoing construction at the BNHS compound are 20 classrooms funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and another 40 budgeted by the DepEd for use in school year 2017. “The city is more than ready for senior high school with regards to infrastructures,” Capili said.

He considered enrollment to senior high school as very encouraging. He said that there were 1,000 students who graduated from high school at the BNHS last March. “Sa Grade 11, mahigit 1,200 na enrolled as of June 8,” the assistant schools division superintendent said.

He said that of the enrollees are six Aeta natives. “Para hindi na sila mahirapan pag-uwiuwi sa bundok, binigyan sila ng libreng dormitory at libreng pagkain ng BNHS,” he said.

He said that enrollees in senior high school will have nothing to pay. “They will have zero expenses because government will shoulder even for example welding rods and other devices,” Capili said.
