BALANGA CITY – This city and Dinalupihan town in Bataan were placed Thursday under a state of calamity following the flash floods caused by heavy rains enhanced by the southwest monsoon that inundated several barangays in the two areas.
The LGUs’ respective sanggunian passed and approved the resolution declaring the state of calamity.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said that a big number of barangays in Balanga City and Dinalupihan were both with one and one-half to three feet deep of flood waters.
Flood waters that submerged the barangays in the city Thursday morning subsided before 12 noon of the same day.
“Bagaman humihina na ang nararanasang pag-ulan, patuloy pa ring alerto at nakahanda ang lokal na pamahalaan upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa,” City Mayor Francis Garcia said.
The city social welfare and development office reported that 599 families of 2,680 individuals were in different evacuation centers in Balanga City. It said that it has began repacking food packs for the evacuees.
In Dinalupihan, Mayor Maria Angela Garcia said that food packs have been prepared and distributed to the evacuees.
