SAMAL, BataanConstruction of houses to be given free to fire victims is set to start after the provincial government extended financial assistance for P0.8 million, the mayor announced Friday.

Mayor Aida Macalinao said Gov. Albert Garcia ordered the release of the fund that will be used in the purchase of construction materials.

She said that she would like to have the project finished before December 16 this year so that the fire victims will have peace of mind during the Christmas season.

The mayor said she had met with representatives of the families of the fire victims who were very grateful to all those who have been helping them.

She disclosed that not only the provincial government of Bataan and the municipal government of Samal are extending assistance but other government officials and those in the private sector as well, hence the project dubbed as “Bahaynihan sa West Calaguiman.”

Former Samal Mayor Gene dela Fuente donated 3,000 hollow blocks.

Macalinao thanked other donors like Alex AcuzarBoyet Macha, Nina Carpio Reyes, Bishop Ruperto Santos, Fr. Percival Medina, and Fr. Tony Quintos. She also acknowledged the assistance of 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman.

The mayor said the municipal engineering office prepared the plans and the exact area of each house of the fire victims.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that 12 houses were razed by the fire last October 23 in Sitio Bitas, Barangay West Calaguiman here.
