Bagis launched as Tarlac’s official dish

BAGIS, a dish popular among Tarlaqueños was launched as the official dish of Tarlac province on May 28 during the celebration of the 149th founding anniversary of Tarlac.

Bagis, a dish that is considered an original Kapampangan recipe is made of ground meat [carabao, beef, pork or goat meat], calamansi juice, garlic, onion and is cooked in many different ways is tasty, easy to cook and budget friendly.

Governor Susan Yap, Vice Governor Carlito David, Cultural Center of the Philippines President and National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chairman Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso and Provincial Tourism Point-Person Arsenio “Baby” Lugay II led the launching at the Rotary Lane where cooks from all over the province rendered their own version of the dish.

In a press conference at the Bulwagan ng mga Gobernador, Lugay said that Bagis was chosen as the official dish because of its popularity and it is a regular dish found in almost all restaurant menus in the province.

“It is an original Kapampangan dish that was also adopted in the Ilocano-speaking towns of Tarlac. In our own study, it is the most common dish that can be found in the menus of local restaurants here in Tarlac,” Lugay said.

During the launching, Pasta Bagis, Bagis Kabagis, Pancit Bagis, Bagis Bistig, Garlic Pepper Bagis with Caramelized Onions, Ginataang Bagis, Atoy Ti Bagis and Traditional Bagis were served.

Provincial Cooperative Enterprise Development Officer Marvi dela Cruz was in-charge of the launcing.
