CLARK FREEPORT – Heavy rains that cause poor visibility in Manila diverted anew Tuesday at least seven fl ights bound for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the Clark International Airport here.

The Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) said the aircraft were those of Cebu Pacifi c and AirPhil Express, as well as a private plane.

The CIAC Airport Command Center (ACC) reported “Cebu Pacifi c fl ights from Tagbilaran, Ozamis, Zamboanga, Mactan, and Airphil Express fl ights from Butuan and Catarman as well as an ATR private plane from Palawan were all diverted to Clark Airport.”

“All the aircraft land ed safely at Clark,” the ACC noted.

Only last July, 28 international and domestic fl ights were also diverted to Clark airport to give way to runway repairs at the NAIA.

“Clark’s regular fl ights remained smooth and unaff ected by the diverted fl ights,” said CIAC president-CEO Emigdio Tanjuatco III.

The Clark airport has two runways, each 3.2 kilometers long, that can accommodate the world’s biggest commercial aircraft and allow simultaneous landing and take-off s of aircraft.

During New Year’s Day revelries, aircraft bound for NAIA are also usually diverted to Clark arising from poor visibility caused by smog from fi recrackers and pyrotechnics.
