MABALACAT – “I can assure you that I can beat him.”
Thus said former presidential and congressional candidate Luisito “Chito” Bacani as he downplayed the chances of Angeles City Councilor Ares Yabut who declared to run for congressman in the first district of Pampanga in the 2010 elections.
Bacani was disqualified to run for president in 2004. He filed a certificate of candidacy in 2007 to run for congressman in the first district of Pampanga but was declared a nuisance candidate.
“I can do it even without money,” added Bacani, who was interviewed by Punto near his new residence in Barangay Dau here on Friday. Before, he lives at Barangay Lourdes Sur in Angeles City.
Bacani said that “modesty aside, [Rep. Carmelo] Tarzan Lazatin fears me than Yabut.”
A former three-term mayor, Lazatin is expected to seek re-election.
Earlier, Lazatin said Bacani would be a “good match” against Yabut. He added that he “could bet on Bacani beating Yabut.”
IDEAS NOT MONEY
Bacani said one of his platforms, which is to file a temporary restraining order before a Regional Trial Court (RTC) to stop the charging of penalties to water consumers in Angeles City, would make “a difference in the next elections.”
“The people will largely benefit from my plans and ideas. People don’t go for moneyed aspirants nowadays,” said Bacani, who gained popularity because of his platforms and plans that once elected, fares going to and from Metro Manila (from barangay Dau here), and vice-versa, will only be at P5 per passenger.
Bacani disclosed that he will file certificate of candidacy for both president and congressman next month as prescribed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Bacani said he would try to woo the support of jailed convicts Businessman Rolito Go and former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Armado Sanchez as it will determine his plans in seeking the top elective post in the country.
“If I can get their support, I will run for president,” he added.
Bacani said that if he wins as president, he will pardon Go, Sanchez and other convicts “as they can be of good use for the people and contribute to the welfare of the society.”
Bacani offered a solution to the unemployment problem. He said he would ask government workers, including policemen and public school teachers, to report for work once a week allowing more people to have jobs.
“If one gets about 20,000 monthly salary, he or she can be given P5,000 monthly salary for reporting once a week,” said Bacani. “It’s up to them where they will get another job or means of income after working for once a week.”
