CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Aurora Gov. Reynante Tolentino died on Sept. 22 at the age of 74.

The cause of the governor’s death was not disclosed. He filed a leave of absence “to tend to his health and recover from sickness,” according to a post in the Aurora provincial government’s Facebook page last Aug. 13.
Vice Gov. Isidro Galban has since served as the acting governor.

Tolentino, then senior board member, took over the Aurora gubernatorial seat on April 22, 2024 after the Office of the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal from public office of elected Gov. Christian Noveras and his father, Vice Gov. Gerardo Noveras, for grave misconduct.

In the May 2025 elections, running under the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, Tolentino won the governorship with 67,590 votes, against Noveras of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas garnering 53,570 votes.

“My prayers for the peaceful passing of Governor Reynante Tolentino. May his soul find peace in God’s eternal embrace,” said Noveras in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
