CABANATUAN CITY – The former head of the Liga ng mga Barangay who won as first councilor in his village regained his post after his wife, who won the village chairmanship last October, resigned for “health reasons” on December 2.

Sergio Tadeo of Barangay San Isidro here, was ineligible to run for barangay chair last October as he had reached the constitutional limit of three terms so he fielded his wife Victoria for the top post and ran for kagawad.

Victoria won the post and Tadeo topped the councilmen slots. An ally of Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, Tadeo was unopposed in Monday polls for Association of Barangay Captains on Monday. Tadeo has already served as member of the city council and is a staunch supporter of the Vergara administration in its move to convert this component city into a highly urbanized city (HUC).

In San Antonio town, six barangay captains allied with former Mayor Arvin Salonga reportedly walked out of the election proceedings after two of their companions, Barangay Chairwoman Anacoreta Santos, 53, of Barangay San Jose and Barangay Chairman Roy Juliano, 50, of Sta. Barbara were arrested while registering for the polls.

Santos was subject of a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 35 for murder and frustrated murder docketed under Criminal Case no. 16199-13 and 16200-13. Juliano, on the other hand, was ordered arrested by the Municipal Trial Court of San Antonio for grave threat under Criminal Case No. 29-13.

Barangay Chairman Nelson Garces, reportedly an ally of Mayor Antonio Lustre was declared winner having received eight votes. Barangay Chairmen Fiel Joson and Edmund Abesamis ran unopposed as ABC presidents of Quezon and Penaranda towns, respectively.

Joson is an uncle of Quezon town Mayor Dean Joson while Abesamis, the incumbent president of the provincial league and member of the provincial board, is a brother of Penaranda Mayor Ferdinand Abesamis.
