ON THE first sign of cough, cold, flu, and fever, most people I know get worried to the bones because of the ongoing pandemic virus which is fatal and has similar symptoms to those of the common cold and flu.

It is common knowledge to all that prevention is the best course to ward off any disease. Vitamins such as C, B12, B6, B3, D3 are hot in the market now for their energizing effects, the same way with minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and selenium. Not to forget the kingdom of herbs like echinacea, goldenseal, and licorice known to be helpful in fighting viruses, and powerful immunity strengtheners are also taking the spotlight in the scenario.

In my practice of natural medicine, we assist the body in fighting infections through proper nutrition, food elimination, water hydration, rest, sleep, and aromatherapy. This simple program helps the immune system to recuperate and reboot its functions.

Colds and flu viruses are likely to strike when the body is weak. Generally, this is due to lack of sleep, poor nutrition, overwork, and mental stress. These invader viruses are highly contagious that spread rapidly from one person to another.

Aromatherapy is what I prefer most at the onset of congestion, cough, fatigue, runny nose, headache, sore throat, chills, and burning eyes. It is safe and it works. I mix specific essential oils with a carrier oil or even just with water to form a blend to address a concern. Essential oils can hasten recovery and ease many of the discomforts brought about by colds and flu when used in baths (bathtub), chest rubs, compresses, inhalants, and diffusers.

To form an inhalant, you need: 8 drops bergamot oil, 3 drops laurel, 3 drops ginger,2 drops basil, 2 drops cayenne, 2 drops black pepper. Combine all oils in an airtight inhaler and directly sniff the aroma from the bottle or add 3 drops of the mixture to a bowl of steaming water and lean you face near the water to inhale the steam for 5 minutes.

For chest rub: 60 ml carrier oil (virgin coconut oil, grapeseed oil, almond oil), 3 drops pine oil, 2 drops ginger, 2 drops eucalyptus, 2 drops frankincense, 1 drop oregano, 1 drop thyme. Place the carrier oil in a clean container and add all the oils mentioned. Massage on your chest and back many times a day until the symptoms subside.

To make a compress for fever and chills: 1 liter of hot or cold water, 2 drops orange oil, 1 drop ginger oil. Pour the water into a basin. Use hot water for the chills and cold water for the fever. Soak a clean cloth into the water and apply the soaked cloth to your chest or forehead, as needed.

For cold diffuser blend: 12 lemon oil drops, 12 orange, 10 eucalyptus, 10 oregano, 10 pine, 6 basil, 4 ginger. Add together in an airtight bottle, turn the bottle upside down several times until the oils are well blended, and add some of the mixture in your diffuser with distilled water. Run the diffuser as necessary.

Try to do all the mentioned oil concoctions above for the symptoms of cold and flu to regain your health quickly, following strictly the proper portion and rituals.

Experience the phenomenal essences from mother nature with its sensational benefits. For when the body is nourished, and so is your spirit too.

Namaste.
