BALER, Aurora (PIA) — The 91st Infantry Battalion (91st IB) and the Lyceum of the East-Aurora (LEA) extended their Memorandum of Partnership (MOP) on the provision of scholarships to former rebels and their dependents and siblings.

Among the programs offered by LEA include bachelor degrees, technical-vocational training accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and junior and senior high school.

91st IB Acting Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Aries Quinto said the initiative is part of the national government’s efforts to help former rebels start anew as they are reintegrated to mainstream society.

“The 91st IB is very thankful for the partnership with Lyceum of the East-Aurora. This is part of our mission to provide quality education for our scholars and an opportunity to help them fulfill their dreams someday,” Quinto added.

Meanwhile, LEA President Jaime Gose noted that the partnership will allow both the college and 91st IB to play roles in cultivating the intellectual capacity of young people, demonstrating a genuine dedication to effective education.

“The MOP will be renewed now and then. LEA will continue to provide scholarship slots to former rebels and their dependents and siblings,” he pressed.

One of the former rebels, now a 3rd year Bachelor of Science in Accounting student, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the 91st IB and LEA for continuing the scholarship program.

“We should prove to everyone that the opportunities given to us are worthy and should not be wasted. This is the time to attain our dreams with the help of the 91st IB and LEA. This is a living testament to their commitment to helping us attain a degree. This will also encourage students not to be recruited by the communist terrorists and will motivate the rebels to surrender,” she said.

Under the agreement, recognized former rebels and their dependents and siblings receive a complete discount on tuition, miscellaneous fees, and other school fees.

The scholarship program also extends to the dependents of soldiers and Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) members.

CAFGU personnel and their dependents receive free tuition and a 75 percent discount on miscellaneous fees, while active personnel of the 91st IB and their dependents and siblings receive free tuition and a 50 percent discount on miscellaneous fees. (CLJD/MAT, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
