Are you voting for the 2010 mouse?

At this early juncture when the campaigning for the 2010 elections is already reaching fever-pitch, this tale from India is worth retelling.

Once there was a mouse who trembled whenever he saw cats.  So he went to a well-known wizard  who had the power to transform anything and anyone in the world.  Seeing the pitiable state of the mouse, the wizard waved his wand and turned the mouse into a cat.

The mouse-turned-cat became bold like never before – until he met a dog.  Quivering, he went back to the wizard who patiently tweaked him into a dog.

Now the mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog wore his courageous heart on his sleeves – until he crossed paths with a tiger.  So the wizard turned him into what he feared.

One day,  the mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog-turned-tiger wandered into the forest and there he saw a hunter.  This time around, the wizard refused to do any magic.  “Tsk, tsk.  I’m sorry, I cannot do anything anymore.  Because although you have the body of a tiger, deep inside you are still a mouse.”

Now, I’m not a political wannabee or even a TODA presidential aspirant.  But I am definitely a voter in 2010.  So before I wield my voting wand, I’ll carefully watch out for the the mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog-turned-tiger-turned-candidate.

Exterior visors may earn him brownie points for some people, but as for me, only his inward character would make him deserving of my vote.

    Quote for the week:

“Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (Samuel 16:7)
