CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Fernando will celebrate this Sept. 8 the 67th anniversary of the canonical coronation of Pampanga’s patroness, the Virgen de los Remedios, with the theme: “Kalupa Mung Mikapnuan king Grasia, Abayan Mu kaming Mangapnu Mu naman king Grasia.”

Novena Masses will be offered at the Metropolitan Cathedral from Aug. 30 until Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. while the stational Mass on Sept. 8, the Solemnity of the Vigen de los Remedios, will start at 4 p.m. also at the Metropolitan Cathedral and will proceed to the Pampanga Capitol Grounds.

Also celebrated by the archdiocese this year is the 70th anniversary of the Cruzada de Penitencia y Caridad. Initiated by San Fernando’s first bishop, Cesar Maria Guerrero, to fight the spread of a godless ideology and to work towards peace and reconciliation amid the then prevailing social unrest in Pampanga, the cruzada bears the images of the Virgen de los Remedios and the Santo Cristo Del Perdon in visits to parishes, and community chapels all around the province.

Three years after its foundation, His Holiness Pope Pius XII issued the pontifical decree on the canonical coronation of the mother’s image in July 1956.

Just as Mary embraced her role as the bearer of Christ, we should embrace our identity as vessels of grace, allowing the beauty and light of Jesus to radiate through us and creating a place where the divine can truly dwell. Mary was filled with the fullness of the grace of God shining through Christ; we are also called to renew our commitment to becoming vessels of God’s grace.
