APALIT, PAMPANGA– Two newly crafted wooden images of Apung Iru, Saint Peter the Apostle, have been unveiled in Apalit, Pampanga, honoring one of the province’s most enduring devotions.

Each image stands at four feet, measuring 62 inches from the base to the tip of the crown and 32 inches in length. Both are carved from solid wood and reflect the rich spiritual tradition of Apalit, especially during the annual Libad fluvial festival.

The first image features liturgical vestments created through machine embroidery by Angel Torres, using green and gold patterns that symbolize Saint Peter’s authority and sacred office. The brass metalworks, including the Papal Tiara and Ferula, are crafted by Dodong Azares, known for his fine ecclesiastical detailing.

The second image, also adorned with embroidery by Torres and brass elements by Azares, was sculpted by Nick Lugue, a highly regarded Kapampangan santo maker. Lugue’s craftsmanship captures the humility and leadership of Saint Peter, making this image a devotional centerpiece with both artistic and spiritual resonance.

These two sacred images are tangible expressions of the Apaliteños’ enduring faith and cultural identity, intended to inspire devotion and preserve religious heritage for generations to come.
