ANGELES CITY – Black Eyes Peas band singer Allan Pineda, known to his worldwide fans as apl.de.ap surreptitiously arrived here on board a private jet from the US yesterday morning to attend the wake of his half-brother who was shot dead here last Feb. 3.

Herminio Manalo, chief of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) here, said Pineda arrived on board a Vista jet on a “private executive flight” which landed at 9:09 a.m. He said Pineda was slated to fly back to the US on the same aircraft last night.

Media were refused access to him at his family residence in Barangay Sapang Bato where he attended wake for his half-brother Joven Deala.

Chief Inspector Wilfreco Paulo, head of Task Force Joven which was created by the Angeles police to solve the killing of Deala, told Punto he was taken by surprise by Pineda’s arrival.

“There was an initial agreement between the police and his representatives for notification about his arrival so we can provide him with security,” he said.

Paolo said that later last week, he was informed by relatives that Pineda’s manager had talked him out of going to the Philippines amid commitments of Black Eyed Peas in the US .

Only last Feb. 5, two days after Deala was shot dead by still unidentified suspects, Black Eyed Peas held a concert to honor Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for his support to the Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation.

The foundation was established by the group’s members as a charitable service fund administered by the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

“It encourages social change by uniting people through the universal language of music”.

Deala was shot in a Pineda’s Fortuner van at about 1 a.m. in Barangay Ninoy Aquino here last Feb. 3. He was in the company of his alleged girlfriend Ellaine Torres whose description of one of two witnesses enabled the police to come out with a sketch.

Paolo said that apart from the sketch of one of the two suspects, police remained without clues on the identity of suspects.

“Only Ellaine was witness to the crime. There seemed to be no one else who saw the shooting, as people usually are already asleep at 1 a.m.,” he noted.

Earlier, Angeles police chief Senior Supt. Pierre Bucsit said probers are looking into a “love angle” in the killing amid reports that Ellaine had other suitors and was separated from her husband.

PO2 Robert Bautista of police station 6 described Ellaine as “very beautiful” and was even a finalist in the Mutya ning Angeles or Miss Angeles and a participant in another beauty pageant called Bikini Open.

Pineda and Deala have the same mother. Pineda’s father was a black American who used to be stationed at the former US Clark air force base here. Pineda migrated to the US over 20 years ago, while her mother remarried and assumed the surname Deala.

However, a relative of the victim said that Deala had figured in fights in the past. He reportedly had been known to be aloof in his family’s neighborhood in Sapang Bato where his famous half brother has been providing scholarships to local youth and contributing for the improvement of a local high school.
