BALANGA City: The Nuclear-Free Bataan Movement (NFBM)  and the Young Bataeños for Environmental Advocacy (YoungBEAN) led Thursday in the coastal clean-up at the Balanga Wetlands and Nature Park in Barangay Tortugas here.

Derek Cabe of NFBM said they held the activity in coordination with the Sangguniang Kabataan and Sangguniang Barangay of Tortugas headed by Barangay chair Rogelio De Guzman in celebration of World Ocean’s Day.

The park is a frequently-visited area by families for bird-watching activities and the cool see breeze.

The activity, the group said, aims to promote awareness on the importance of our oceans in sustaining life and providing food for everyone.

“We demand a stop to the destructive forms of businesses that continue to destroy and pollute the ocean like plastic production, reclamation, seabed quarrying and the dumping of radioactive water to the ocean,” Cabe said.

These endanger, she said, our very source of food and the future of humanity. (30)
